New Client Requests and Intake Form

No-Charge Trials For New Dogs

Whenever possible, we prefer to schedule a no-charge, off-peak trial visit for dogs new to us. We want to determine if we are a good fit for your dog(s) before booking longer reservations. We do not accept reservations for new dogs over peak times with the exception of short, summer weekends.

Non-peak trials are scheduled Monday through Thursday. We ask that you drop off between 8-9 a.m. and pick up the following day between 2:30-3:30 p.m. On departure, we can let you know how your pet responded to us, the facility, and our daily routine. You can let us know how your pet transitions home. Together, we can determine if we are a good fit. If we are not, we can suggest alternative care options.

Peak-Alone Surcharges for New Clients Requesting Summer Weekend Reservations

  • Household pairs: Not subject to the peak-alone surcharge unless dogs must be separated for safety reasons. A prior no-charge, off-peak trial is preferred but not required.
  • Board alone (owner’s request or Kingdale’s request): The peak-alone surcharge always applies to dogs boarding alone during peak times. A prior no-charge, off-peak trial is preferred but not required.
  • Evaluate for shared boarding: We can evaluate a new dog for shared boarding over a short, summer weekend but the $15 peak-alone surcharge will apply to their stay. You’re paying to reserve an individual kennel for your dog if they do not pass the evaluation; the peak-alone surcharge applies regardless of whether or not your dog passes the evaluation during that stay. Whenever possible, we would prefer to evaluate a dog during a no-charge, off-peak trial.

Please see the Peak-Demand Calendar tab for more information!

Boarding Requirements and Instructions for Boarding

  • We must be able to safely handle dogs on leash in order to board them at our facility. We have clients remove (and keep) each dog’s leash and collar in the car. We use our leather slip leashes to bring dogs to and from the car. The exception would be a dog who must use a harness due to a collapsing trachea. The harness must fit well and we must be able to safely put it on and remove it. Collars and harnesses are not worn in the kennel as they could be a choke risk.
  • We cannot accept dogs who: (1) display barrier reactivity or aggression (fence-line fighting); (2) are overly reactive to other dogs; (3) are known escape artists or fence climbers; or (4) are aggressive with people.
  • Dogs must be willing and able to eliminate on the concrete in their attached, outdoor exercise runs. We cannot accommodate dogs who must be walked on leash for routine toileting.
  • We require a six-week window between adoption and boarding with us. This gives the dog an opportunity to bond with its new family and gives the family time to determine if there are any health or behavioral issues of concern.
  • Dogs must be in stable health and fully ambulatory. We have found that either veterinary care or home care is more appropriate for dogs with mobility limitations and those with emerging, acute, or complex medical needs. We do not accept dogs for boarding if they are actively symptomatic with respiratory, gastrointestinal, or urinary tract illness. Dogs must be free from communicable illness for at least 30 days prior to boarding.
  • We do not accept intact females when they are in heat or expected to go into heat during a board.
  • We require a two-week window between any surgical procedure and arriving for boarding. Sutures, if any, must be removed, incisions must be fully healed and any post-operative rehab must be completed prior to boarding.
  • We cannot board dogs with complex medical needs or those requiring injectable medication.
  • We require that you treat your dog with a topical or oral flea and tick preventative year-round. Flea collars are not allowed at our facility.
  • We require that all vaccines be administered at least two weeks prior to boarding if they are expired or have not been previously administered.
  • I have read Kingdale's food prep instructions and understand that if I fail to follow them there will be a $20 food prep service fee applied per visit.
  • Medication is administered when we feed, typically between 9-10:30 a.m. and 5-6 p.m. daily. Medication is not administered outside of these hours so ask your vet if this scheduling works for your dog’s prescription(s) if applicable.
  • Kingdale Kennels reserves the right to change a dog's boarding designation to alone at any time if it is unsafe or unwise for them to continue boarding with another dog. Peak-demand surcharges apply if this occurs during a peak-demand time.
  • In the event that we have not received your dog’s vaccine updates prior to drop-off and we have to contact your veterinarian you will be charged a $15 vaccine request fee per pet.
  • We require that you treat your dog with a topical or oral flea and tick preventative year-round. Flea collars are not allowed at our facility.
